omputer devices have appeared in all shapes and sizes in the last few years. You can flip them, rotate them, deatach them.. basically transform them in a way that best fits your needs at the work desk, on the lap or in your hand. As a result the gap between the common laptop segment and the tablet segment was filled with the so-called hybrids.

The aluminum body looks slim, lightweight and really elegant-looking

The device you will see in this video review introduces another flexible way to transform your machine. This is VAIO Multi-flip PC.

At first sight, there is nothing unusual about this laptop. It is slim, lightweight and really elegant-looking in its aluminum body. The big horizontal gap in the middle of the lid is the only thing that gives out this machine’s hybrid character. In fact, this is where the hinges are installed. They allow you to pull the whole screen out of its frame and close it over the keyboard, facing up. So this is how you end up with a tablet device. The screen is quite flexible to flip and rotate to the most comfortable angle. Then it is easily attached back to its bed with the help of magnets. The hinges hold the screen steadily and the whole flipping maneuver is easy and effortless.

Vaio Fit Multi-flip is available in three different screen sizes 13.3in, 14in and 15.5 inches

What’s more the premium materials used here also give credit to the good build quality. Of course a touchscreen can’t do without Windows 8. You can get this hybrid also with the Windows 8 Pro version.

Vaio Fit Multi-flip is available in three different screen sizes 13.3in, 14in and 15.5 inches. For our test sample we chose the most portable one. The 13-inch Triluminous LED display delivers FullHD resolution and wide viewing angles thank to the IPS technology. We enjoyed working with the touchscreen both in laptop and in tablet mode.

a pen-like Digitizer comes to help you achieve more precision and accuracy than using just your finger

In the latter, a pen-like Digitizer comes to help you achieve more precision and accuracy than using just your finger. The picture is great, very detailed without any pixilation. Colors are also tru-life, without oversaturation. What we didn’t like about this display was the fact that it was quite dim.. and the battery-saving mode wasn’t even turned on. We had a hard time using this display in daylight. Just above the display Sony has placed the 0.92MP HD webcam which excels with very good picture quality as it is using an Exmor sensor.

Sony has entrusted this machine’s performance to Intel. Depending on how much power you want on your computer you can chose between Core i3, i5 and i7. Our test sample used the latter which works at 1.8GHz frequency. You can boost productivity levels further by adding up to 16GB DDR3 SD RAM.

To be even faster, VAIO MultiFlip comes with three SSD storage options.

Sony has entrusted this machine’s performance to Intel

You can choose to load it with 128GB, 256GB or 512GB SATA Flash SSD memory. And if you need more space then you can load your configuration with hybrid memory. You can install up to 1TB HDD in combination with 16GB SSD for better resonsiveness.

You can enhance graphics performance on the MultiFlip with NVIDIA GeForce GT 735M

If you often play games on your machine or use professional video or photo software then you can enhance graphics performance on the MultiFlip with NVIDIA GeForce GT 735M which uses 2GB independent memory. If not, all the common tasks like streaming video online are just as well handled by Intel HD graphics 4400.

Battery life is definitely the most unimpressive thing about the VAIO Fit Multiflip. Our 13-inch configuration died after 5 hours of video playback. In the battery test this machine falls behind its hybrid competition.

Sony VAIO Fit Multiflip will be available in three different colors – black, white and pink.
