fter windows 8 release we got used to seeing devices running the new platform but with this video review will go back in time a little bit to something tested and well-working – Android Ice cream sandwich. This is Acer Iconia Tab A511.

It was introduced to the market in the beginning of 2012 as the A510 successor in Acer’s family only this time supporting 3G

This device was introduced to the market in the beginning of 2012 as the A510 successor in Acer’s family only this time supporting 3G.

Starting with the design this Android tablet feels bulky and heavy in comparison to what’s already out there. It is 0.43 inches thin and weighs the considerable 1.7 pounds. The rubberized backside panel makes the device comfortable to hold and carry. The case is available in black and also silver color.

The memory options for this tablet are two 16 and 32 GB of internal storage. The RAM on its part is 1GB. The quad-core Cortex A9 CPU is in charge of the work processes on this device.

The chipset on board is Nvidia Tegra 3.

The Acer Iconia Tab features a 10.1 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen in 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. Although the pixel density is nothing to impress being the average 149ppi the display itself is quite bright and delivers vivid colors and great contrast and sharpness.

We experienced a few difficulties when zooming in and out the maps application but this was not the case with websites and pictures. The response was immediate both with single finger and multitouch commands as well. The sound is pretty good, having in mind that usually tablets don’t shine with sound quality. The two stereo speakers and placed on the bottom side and their performance is enhanced by Dolby digital plus Mobile technology.

The 5MP camera on the back works in 2592x1944pixel resolution

On the right side you will find a micro HDMI port. Under a cap there is a microSD slot thanks to it the memory can be further expanded with up to 32GB more. There was a pleasant surprise as well the SIM card slot on the Acer Iconia tab will you keep you constantly connected to the Internet via 3G network. On the bottom edge there is a micro USB port 2.0.

The 5MP camera on the back works in 2592x1944pixel resolution. It also records HD video. However the output image quality is far from excellent. In low-light conditions the camera takes poor quality images with a lot of noise. The auto focusing is also not very satisfying.

The 9 800mAh Li-Polymer battery provides around 15 hours of web surfing and playback

The front camera shoots in 2MP.

The high-capacity 9 800mAh Li-Polymer battery capacity provides around 15 hours of web surfing and playback.

The Acer Iconia is an average tablet device that provides decent performance, works on 3G and the battery life is one of the longest on a tablet.
