ow that smartphones have grown-up so ridiculously in size to the so-called phablets, we thought we have seen everything. Here is what proved us wrong – this is Sony Xperia Z Ultra.

At first sight this giant handset looks like a bigger version of the Xperia Z, only offering a much better viewing experience. The reason for this is not only the huge screen size but the great graphics on the FullHD display.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra offers a wonderful 6.4-inch FullHD display

This device will definitely bring mixed emotions with customers. Some may love browsing and watching videos on such a big screen while others will criticize its giant size because it makes it unpractical to use and carry. It really depends on what kind of user you are. But let’s take a closer look at what Sony Xperia Z Ultra has to offer.

Sony has done a great job compensating the 6.4-inch diagonal and big measures with its super thin profile – 0.26inches and lightweight of only 212g. What’s more, Sony introduced this device as the world’s thinnest FullHD display phone. Phone or tablet it doesn’t matter as long as it satisfies our needs.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra offers a wonderful 6.4-inch FullHD display. It boosts great 344ppi density. The Triluminous technology turns playing games and watching videos into a great experience.

Its maximum levels could have been a little bit higher

The capacitive touchscreen supports up to 10-finger multitouch. Our only remark concerning the display was its poor brightness. Its maximum levels could have been a little bit higher.

Because the phablet is water and dust proof just like its older brother the Xperia Z – it receives a shatter-proof and scratch resistant glass layer on top of the display which inevitably attracts lots of fingerprints. Since it’s IP58-cerfitied the Z Ultra works perfectly up to 1 meter underwater.

Z Ultra’s core hardware is well-chosen to support this great screen and provide maximum productivity. The phablet runs on a quad-core 2.2GHz Krait 400 CPU. Its performance is backed up by 2GB of RAM. Multitasking, browsing, loading full HD videos and gaming are well-handled by this hardware in combination with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Video performance is handled by Adreno 330 GPU.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra offers an 8MP camera on the back equipped with image stabilization, sweep panorama mode and an HDR mode.

The images come out good with decent quality except for the times when the lighting is poor. Unsurprisingly, in such conditions a lot of noise appears on the images. It would have been great if Sony had provided a flash along with the base camera. The front, video call camera offers 2MP. Both cameras are capable of shooting 1080p videos.

Since such a big screen usually gives the battery a hard time, we were really curious to try out battery life here. The non-removable high-capacity Li-Ion 3050mAh battery on board really didn’t disappoint us. Turning stamina mode on will add a few extra hours before the next charge.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra will be available in black, white and purple colors.
