f you are a spy on a tight budget you will find this video review very useful. If not, this digital toy will give you the opportunity to always check what your neighbors across the street are up to.

The powerful zoom abilities are supported by a 24-720mm ultra-wide angle 30x zoom lens

This is the super-zoom Canon Powershot SX500 IS.

This camera’s powerful zoom abilities are supported by a 24-720mm ultra-wide angle 30x zoom lens. The aperture range extends from f3.4 down to f7.1. Shutter speeds on this body start at 15seconds down to 1600th of the second. Canon have fit such a powerful lens potential in a compact and lightweight body. It is only 12 ounces with the battery unit included.

The affordable price would explain the absence of a CMOS sensor inside

The affordable price would explain the absence of a CMOS sensor inside. Instead Canon have loaded a 16 megapixel CCD sensor inside, accompanied by the outdated Digic 4 image processor. This all makes up both for the low price and the power zoom options. The zoom stabilization both optical and digital is essential for the sharp focusing on very distant subjects.

On the back there is a 3-inch LCD display panel. It is also a substitution for the viewfinder. To the right of the display there is a set of controls that give you quick access to basic controls like ISO sensitivity, Flash, Macro mode and also a dedicated key for activating the movie mode. There is a pop-up flash on top which should be manually activated every time you wish to use it.

The ISO sensitivity varies from 100 up to 1600

The performance is decent, with few shooting options but you get the liberty to manually set the controls yourself. The ISO sensitivity varies from 100 up to 1600. The maximum image resolution on the Powershot SX500 is 4608×3456 pixels. The video quality format is 720p at 25fps.

The battery life is another compensator for the price. The Lithium-Ion battery piece provides charge for about 190 shots.

In conclusion, the Canon Powershot SX500 is not the fastest camera, but it is still very light and compact for having such a huge zoom lens. For the price of a little over $250 it is a good bargain for a wide-angle 30x zoom lens.
